Return of Mold during the rainy season

With the rainy season back in full effect in the lower mainland, the issue with mold in the home is back on the rise this season. Here are some tips and tricks to help prevent mold, signs to look for if you suspect there is mold, and what to do if mold is actually discovered.

Mold consists of small organisms that can be found in most places and is classified as a fungus. Mold likes to grow in damp spots in dark places and can become a problem and pose health risks such as allergies, asthma and other raspatory problems.

Some signs of mold are described as a musky earth smell, some cracking or other damage the mold is growing on, an area that is dark and damp, and what often looks like "dirt spots" starting to grow might actually be mold spores.

In some cases, the mold can be scrubbed away and disinfected, and can be prevented from returning by keeping the effected area dry. If the mold has grown in significant size and has caused damage it might be time to call a professional to safely remove the hazard.
